Etsy Holiday Boot Camp Pledge

The holiday shopping season is getting closer everyday. I’ve been preparing for most of the summer, or thought I was preparing. But I still have so much to do! Don’t we all? I of course have not make any Christmas purchases yet and probably won’t start until the first or December. That is just the way it goes for me.

In the meantime, I am gearing up hard and fast for my busy (sales) season. Etsy’s Success newsletter popped in my email with perfect timing.  They have started a Holiday Boot Camp and I have taken the pledge.

I, Lena Brown, pledge to participate in the Etsy Success Holiday Boot Camp to the best of my abilities. I vow to check in every week, do my homework and support my fellow Holiday Boot Campers. I will read the weekly newsletters and blog posts, check in on the weekly forum thread, read the weekly blog post, check off the checklists and salute the mascot. I promise to share what I’ve learned with those who need it, support my fellow Etsy indiepreneurs and, most of all, have a positive and persistent attitude. I understand that together we can spread the word about our handmade and vintage goods, making this holiday season a more unique and meaningful one to gift givers and give-ees everywhere!

In order for me to feel successful this holiday season, I made a long list of “To-Do’s” to accomplish ASAP to boost my sales.

  1. Edit Etsy listings to remove my “Free Shipping” text in the titles. Knitting Needle Cases will still ship free. Google Base or Google Shopping does not allow the words “free shipping” to appear in the title of products listing in the Google Shopping search results. I definitely need to be in there!
  2. Finish adding products to http://lenabrown.com/wp/.
  3. Projects to finish:
    1. Zipper in Wallets

    2. Wristlet in Wallets done

    3. Black Angora Sock Yarn 10/3

I made a bit of progress. My new knitting needle cases are photographed and sitting on my desk ready to list. This morning I finished listing my recently dyed angora/alpaca yarns and wool sock yarn. Over the weekend my daughter and I wound 14 large 400+ gram skeins onto cones ready to wind into 100 gram skeins. If we multiple 14×400=5600 grams x 364 yards per 100 grams = 20,384 yards. My arm was sore. Her’s was doing fine. So I let her wind away. I like having my helper ask to help rather than me asking her. She is finally showing an interest in my creative interests.

More progress was made in the past week. I’ve photographed, edited, listed and counted inventory of the yarns I dyed in early September. Those are available here -> http://www.etsy.com/shop/lenabrowndesigns?section_id=6528120
I really want to keep all of them, but will never have enough time in my life to knit all the yarn in my possession. The colors turned out better than I expected. The method I used to dye or how I applied the colors was different than my usual. I’ll have to write a blog post about it.

Also fibers from my wool room that I have intended to sell have been photographed and about half listed as of the time this comment is written. The other half will be completed today.
